SierraMadre Translations

The English and Spanish language specialists

In a hurry?

Welcome
to the agencies' agency!

Sierra Madre Translations is a specialist provider of quality translations to and from English and Latin American Spanish. We have been serving agencies across the world at highly competitive word rates since 1998, translating over 10,000 documents in that time.

Our trading name derives from Mexico's beautiful Sierra Madre mountains, which overlook our home city of Monterrey in the state of Nuevo Leon, some 140 miles SW of Laredo, Texas. Monterrey is the industrial heart of Mexico, and has attracted the headquarters of some of Latin America's leading sci/tech, business and academic communities.

The life-cycle of a translation project

As soon as the project is received, we assess the work involved and assign it to available team members to complete by the customer's deadline.

Isolate the text

The first step in the translation process is to totally separate the text from the format so we can focus all our attention on the trees, not the wood. The source-code editor analyses the text to ensure it is free from errors, omissions and unwanted ambiguities; unnatural line-breaks are removed.

CAT Pre-process

A second analysis is performed with our CAT software tools, using translation memories supplied by the customer or maintained by ourselves, to identify both previously translated segments and any recurring words or groups of words which are not present in the memories or glossaries.

First Draft

"New" terms and phrases are assessed and resolved by the assigned lead translator (a native speaker of the target language), in collaboration with our editors and with local consultants, obtaining approval from the customer where required, and a first draft of the translation is produced.

Quality Control

Output from the lead translator is rigorously checked in our quality control process, to ensure completeness (all the source has been translated), observance of glossary terms (a semi-automatic process), and accuracy (the meaning has been properly interpreted). Style, spelling, grammatical coherence and punctuation are also reviewed.

Reassembly and Sign-off

The Spanish text is then reassembled into the original format, matching the original design as far as possible. This step usually involves adjustments to font sizes as the Spanish text is typically 10-12% longer than the English. A final review is performed to compare the appearance of the English and Spanish documents.
